GB News viewers declared that comedy had met chaos as a trio of comics gave their verdict on a billionaire who’d boosted his fortune with asylum seeker hotels.
Comedians Leo Kearse, Nick Dixon and Steve Allen all took to GB News to share their views after the inflammatory news emerged that Graham King had seen a 35% rise in his fortune thanks to asylum seeker hotels. The landlord and entrepreneur had accepted a series of lucrative government contracts to house asylum seekers, and the financial boost it provided in the past year has made him one of the latest billionaires to earn a place on the Sunday Times Rich List.
The trio, who mixed wry and light-hearted comedy with serious political debate as they tackled the thorny issue, joked that it might not be safe to share their true feelings about him. Nick exclaimed: “It sounds like he’s got a lot of migrant money that he could sue me with!” Leo replied: “There’s a lot of money that was taxed from you and given to him to house people that you didn’t want to be in the country and now he can use that money to sue you!” The debate took on a more serious tone when Nick announced that landlords “shouldn’t accept” these bank balance-boosting contracts on “moral grounds”, saying it “makes me so angry” that landlords accept these government deals.
